“For example, lets say you are in charge of your club soccer teams website, and you want to add a current weather forecast so your fans can plan for your games or you want to include a daily brainteaser on your site without having to come up with something new everyday. Google Gadgets lets you do this easily. Just visit the directory of “Google Gadgets for your webpage” to find gadgets that youd like to add to your own page and select your preferences for how the gadget will appear on your page. Then, copy and paste the HTML from the window into the HTML code for your own website. Its an easy way to get the content you need and want without spending hours writing code”

find this Wayfaring map of Veronica Mars locations. I may make a pilgrimage when I’m in San Diego for ETech. I won’t visit the Jack Bauer 24 map of “Day 5″ locations. These came via the great Google Maps Mania blog, and it’s interesting to see both made via Wayfaring.

There are some problems with non US locations (for example, the standard resolution on maps.google.com is far too coarse for most Australian locations), but here’s a very quick example. Note that I used Docklands in Melbourne, rather than the more famous MCG, because even the photo resolution for the MCG area is just too poor to recognise it – drill down on the Docklands waypoint to see what I mean.

For the past week I’ve been tracking my girlfriend through her mobile phone. I can see exactly where she is, at any time of day or night, within 150 yards, as long as her phone is on. It has been very interesting to find out about her day. Now I’m going to tell you how I did it.

World-Tracker.com GSM apparently uses cell tower data (or GPS, when available) to track the location of just about any GSM cellphone. Just enter the number you want to track into the service’s handy Google Maps-based interface, and you’ll be able to zoom in on the device’s location, with accuracy somewhere between 50 and 500 meters. The first time you try to track a phone, a text message is sent to the owner, who must reply in order to enable tracking (the Guardian article above will give you an idea about how to work around this if you need to track a spouse, kid or employee). The service is currently compatible with O2, Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile in the UK, and has plans to expand to other markets including Germany, Spain, Norway and the US. If, that is, privacy advocates don’t shut it down first.
